Sunday 25th February was the date of the Area Pool competition held in Upney, so being very convenient for Redbridge group members. Eight of the Area’s best Pool players gathered for the event. Redbridge was represented by me (Trev), Paul, and Sherry. The early stages of the competition saw the competitors split into 2 groups of 4 players, with the games being played on a round robin basis, guaranteeing everyone a minimum of at least 3 games, and with the top two players from each group going into the semi finals.
After some close games (and some which weren’t so close, mostly involving Paul) the four semi-finalists were confirmed as Paul and Trev from Redbridge and Richard and Lee from Barking/Dagenham and Romford/Havering groups respectively. Paul, who had been in superb form all day won his semi-final 2-0, whilst I made harder work of mine, losing one match, but eventually winning 2-1, to set up a repeat of last year’s all Redbridge final.
Whilst I was hoping to repeat my victory of last year, Paul obviously had other ideas and easily won the first game, leaving me with it all to do. The second game was a much tighter battle; I played more cautiously, trying not to give Paul any easy shots, given how well he was playing. Despite snookering Paul several times, he played some fine shots and kept his nerve to win
the second game giving him a 2-0 victory. To be fair, he had played very well all day, and deserved to win. I look forward to a possible rematch next year, but for this year, well done Paul.
I’d like to thank Richard for organising the competition and to all the players for taking part and making it such an enjoyable event.
