We’ve never seen so many deers.
For the Bank Holiday Monday some of us from Redbridge 18 Plus decided to visit Dagnam Park near Harold Wood in order to spot some deer.
Upon arrival to Harold Wood Station we journeyed onto Central Park . We needed to get through Central Park in order to get to Dagnam Park, which is more wild in comparison. We came across some wooden historical figures, a good chance for a photo.
Once we entered into Dagnam Park it was quite a walk away from where the deer usually congregate. At first we weren’t entirely sure if we would see many deer. We went up the hill towards the forest . Then suddenly on the edge of forest, deer was spotted. Quite a few of the were hiding behind the trees. The group of deer went from one end of the forest to the other. If come across deer, you need to keep your distance, no sudden movements and not too loud.
Once we came out the forest more deer were suddenly seen across the grasslands. At first there were 3 or 4 sighted, then there large groups of them moving across the fields. We have never seen so many deer. They were grazing and then moving back towards the forest. There were males, females and young ones as well as golden ones and darker ones. It was a spectacular sight.
Afterwards we walked along the path until we came across the ruins of Dagnam Mansion, built in the 1600s but demolished in 1950. It has recently been excavated. We then sighted even more deer walking on the other side of the woods. On our way back through the forest we saw some more deer walking across the paths or sitting in a shade under the trees.
These deer were in large groups of around 40 to 50.
It was an amazing day out and it was incredible to see so many deer. Other walks are upcoming in the coming months where we may spot other wildlife.
