Redbridge 18 Plus, which holds a range of events and outings for residents to make friends and share experiences, collected £1,400 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
The group hosted quizzes, baked cakes and ran raffles to raise the fund and said it decided to help the BHF after discovering that seven million people in the UK are affected by heart disease.
After raising the money a representative from the BHF came to speak to the group at Goodmayes Community Centre, Green Lane, and members learnt more about the heart-related conditions.
Member Francesca Barclay said: “It is always rewarding to raise money to help save lives.
“The talk was very interesting. It gave us more of an insight into what BHF does.”
Raising money for charity is just one of many activities Redbridge 18 Plus takes part in.
