The social group had an explosive day out when it visited a former gunpowder mill. Members learnt about the "remarkable" history of the Royle Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey and its 300 year history of producing gunpowder right up until the Second World War. Members explored the buildings before taking a train around the site to see its wildlife. Group member Terry Little said "It was interesting to learn about the history of the siteand it's remarkable to think that explosives were being made so close to London until relatively recently." The group meets on Fridays at Goodmayes Community Centre in Green Lane, Goodmayes, from 8.30pm
