THE BOURNEMOUTH coast was the base for an activity packed weekend as seven club members decamped in the town. During their two-day trip, they took a bus and ferry ride to visit Brownsea Island, the largest of the islands in Poole Harbour. The club members spent several hours there during their visit last month, enjoying a squirrel walk, during which they spotted many of the estimated 100 to 200 red squirrels on the island. The following day, the friends spent some time exploring Bournemouth, before visiting the historic village of Christchurch. They also took a scenic boat ride up the River Stour. Club member Sarah Roast said: "It was a great weekend away, with the highlight for me being seeing, the red squirrels, as it was the first time I'd seen any, other than on TV." The holiday is just one of a host of events group members enjoy during the year. Later this month, club members will get stuck into a night of karaoke and a cinema night. They meet every Friday from 8.30pm at llford Central Library, Clements Road, llford. Yearly membership to the club is £20 for new members. Newcomers can enjoy a one month trial before deciding if they want to join. For more information, call Trevor Eley on 020 8553 0947.
