Bournemouth, 12th November 2009

THE BOURNEMOUTH coast was the base for an activity packed weekend as seven club members decamped in the town.
During their two-day trip, they took a bus and ferry ride to visit Brownsea Island, the largest of the islands in Poole Harbour.
The club members spent several hours there during their visit last month, enjoying a squirrel walk, during which they spotted many of the estimated 100 to 200 red squirrels on the island.
The following day, the friends spent some time exploring Bournemouth, before visiting the historic village of Christchurch. They also took a scenic boat ride up the River Stour.
Club member Sarah Roast said: "It was a great weekend away, with the highlight for me being seeing, the red squirrels, as it was the first time I'd seen any, other than on TV."
 The holiday is just one of a host of events group members enjoy during the year. Later this month, club members will get stuck into a night of karaoke and a cinema night.
They meet every Friday from 8.30pm at llford Central Library, Clements Road, llford. Yearly membership to the club is £20 for new members. Newcomers can enjoy a one month trial before deciding if they want to join. For more information, call Trevor Eley on 020 8553 0947.

EVENTS lined up for members over the next week include an indoor car rally and a barbecue.
The group will also gather for an afternoon playing rounders, while later this month, they are set to enjoy a karaoke night and a pub night, as well as a game of tennis.
Plans are also in the pipeline for three special weekend events, including outings to King's Lynn in Norfolk, a pitch-and-putt tournament and an exploration of the unusual attractions of Hunstanton, Norfolk.
The group for 18 to 40-year-olds meets every Friday from 8.30pm in Central Library, Clements Road, llford.

BBC Trip, 14th October 2010

                        

MEMBERS enjoyed a close look at Doctor Who's Tardis and the chance to present a weather forecast on a revealing tour of BBC Television Centre.
Their trip to the TV studios in White City, west London, was led by an experienced tour guide.
Members saw how the TV news is broadcast and stood in the studios where many classic shows, including Blue Peter, Blackadder and Only Fools and Horses have been made. They got to inspect the Tardis from Doctor Who, while other members had the opportunity to present the weather.
The friends also created a short news broadcast and others took part in a game show based on The Weakest Link.
Group member Terry Little said: "This was the first opportunity I've had to go to the BBC studios.
"I liked learninghowThe shows are produced behind the scenes and seeing the high-tech equipment used."
Members also enjoyed a tour around some of the so-called haunted parts of London.
The tour included visits to some of the best known sites in the capital, including London Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral and Monument, as well as various graveyards, local taverns and alleyways.
A club spokesman said: "The members were fascinated by the historical events of these places.
"Upon each visit they were told bone-chilling tales of ghost sightings, murders and bodysnatchers."
The two tours are some of the many outings enjoyed by the group, which also include karaoke and quiz nights, and visits to the cinema, as well as day trips.
They meet on Fridays from 8.30pm in the York room of Central Library, Clements Road, llford.

Rounders, 27 October 2011

Members are celebrating their victory in a regional rounders competition at Thorndon Park. Brentwood. The contest saw six teams from Essex and East Anglia do battle in a round robin, with the highest scoring team in each of the two groups going forward to the final.
Redbridge found them selves against the Havering and Romford group in the grand final and after some "fine shots and excellent fielding" the squad won by eight rounders to four.
Sports secretary Kerry Mann said: "It was a fantastic day, and although we weren't expecting to do so, winning the competition was a great result."

Trophies at Redbridge, 7th April 2011

Members have celebrated after they won three trophies and three further awards at the Annual Area Conference.
Redbridge 18 Plus member Elliot Barclay won the Andy Pitkin Trophy as the person who made the most outstanding contribution in the Iondon area.
The next trophy Redbridge received was the Roy Gordon Trophy for winning and attending the most sports competitions. The third trophy was for memberships as Redbridge had the most gain in memberships throughout the district.
The other awards Redbridge 18 Plus received were best magazine, best publicity and best scrapbook.
Mr Barclay said "it was such a privilege to win these trophies. It reflects what Redbridge has done over the last year such as creating the website and helping with events.'
On top of this Redbridge 18 Plus also won the Annual Area quiz held at Mossford Trinity Church.
The last few rounds of the quiz were crucial as they saw the Recibridge team edging ahead of the Barking and Dagenham team and beating them by just four points.
